Correcting Human Hair Wig Damage

There is nothing quite like a human hair wig. After all, you can’t get a more realistic feel than actual human hair. If you are the lucky owner of a human hair wig, you know how important it is to take care of it properly. A well-loved wig can have an expected lifespan of about a year.

Caring for Human Hair Wigs

Human hair wigs will start to show signs of wear eventually. If, before a year, your wig is looking dried out and frizzy, or you’re experiencing matting at the nape of the neck, read on. This guide will spell out how to correct human hair wig damage.

For this process, you will need to pin your wig onto a mannequin head. When pinning, be careful to not puncture any monofilament or lace material. If you only have a plastic or metal wig stand, it will also work if you’re careful.

Once the wig is secured, section off the hair using clips. Apply conditioner to the sections avoiding the roots of the wig. Conditioning products can loosen the knots at the base and cause loss of fiber. Be sure to concentrate the conditioner through matted areas of the wig.

With a wide-tooth comb, work your way through the wig in sections. Always start at the bottom and work your way up. Once it is detangled, you can wash the wig normally.  If you tried the above steps and your wig still needs TLC, go for a deep-conditioning method.
